Mirka and Rebecca....
Mirka and Rebecca, I like your translation from English into Slovak and the article about the Portugal school in Tomar, you wrote for our school magazine, is really good! Well done, girls :)
Domácich úloh vraj dostávajú menej ako my.

Our letter to our friends from various European countries
24th October 2008, Kysucké Nové Mesto, Slovakia
Dear friends!
Our school is a primary school Nábrežná in the north of Slovakia. It´s situated in Kysucké Nové Mesto near the river Kysuca. Our school is the biggest school in our town. It is composed of three buildings. 620 pupils who are from 6 to 15 years old attend the school. In our class, there are 24 pupils, but we are divided into 14 pupils on English lesson. In our school, there are about 45 employes, more than 30 teachers and only 11 teachers teach us.
There is a cafeteria in our school, too. Maybe we can call it a snack bar. It´s not big, only to buy something for eat and come back to our classroom to talk with friends. Our school has got two floors. There are 44 classrooms in our school.
Special rooms:
1.Musical laboratory 2.Chemistry laboratory 3.Physics laboratory 4.Two computer laboratories 5.Library 6.Language laboratory.
We don´t wear a uniform. We like the best wearing jeans and a T-shirt.
Our school rules are called School Order.
For ex.: 1.We mustn´t run in the corridors.
2.We can´t use a mobile phone during the lessons.
3.We can´t walk outdoor (on the street).
Our school year lasts 10 months. We are on holidays:
- two days in October (from 30.10 to 31.10.) – Autumn holidays
- Christmas holidays are from 22.12 to 7.1.
- Half-term holiday: it´s only one day off: 30.1.
- Spring holidays last one week, they are from 2.3. to 6.3.
- Easter holidays last only few days, this year it´ll be from 9.4. to 14.4.
- Summer holidays last 2 months, we call them „big summer holidays“.
We usually go to school on foot. The school begins at 7.45 and finishes at 13.15. One lesson lasts 45 minutes. Between two lessons there is 10 minutes break. One schoolday usually has 6 lessons. So everyday we stay at school nearly 6 hours. We have to go to school 5x a week. We don´t go to school on Saturday and Sunday.
We always have lunch after school. We can have a soup for lunch. Eating soup is very typical for our country. 2 times a week we can choose between two dishes. We usually have some vegetable soup and potatoes and meat with same dressing for lunch. We drink tea. Sometimes we eat some sweet food, too. We can get some crakers and some fruit, too. I like eating some cakes, some fish, some potatoes.
At our school there is a wide choice of curriculum activities. Lubo plays the football. Veronyka goes to the hip-hop dance lessons. We had to do 5 written test this week. Teachers have to classify our work be marks from 1 to 5. One is the best and 5 is the worst.
1- well done
2- creditable
3 -good
4- sufficient
5- insufficient
We have approximatelly 10 pieces of homework during the week. We don´t have any homework on Wednesday.
That´s all about our school and our schooldays.
We are looking forward to hearing about you. We have decided to translate all your letters to our school magazine called Záškolák (in English it means Skiver). It´s a funny name, isn´t it?
Bye for now !
