Eating in Britian

Nowadays British people don´t eat any traditional English breakfast like sausages, bacon, baked beans and eggs. The typical English breakfast is usually served in hotels around Britain and tourists like to eat it. Children in Britain usually have a bowl of cereals with milk or a slice of toast with butter and jam for breakfast. They usually drink orange juice meanwhile a lot of adults drink a cup of coffee in the morning.

As for lunch, many children at school have their packed lunch. They don´t eat in a school canteen, but their mums prepare them some fruit, a sandwich, a packet of crisps, a small box of juice or a small bottle of water. During a lunch break, children sit and open their plastic boxes full of food.

British people have their lunch from 12 o´clock till 1.30 p.m. Many adults have some sandwiches, a bowl of pasta or salad. Their lunch is often something quick and cold. They often buy it in snack bars and cafeterias and they often buy a take-away version of food.

The main meal of the day is called dinner. If it is eaten in the evening, they call it Supper. People eat supper anytime between 6.30 p.m. and 8.00 p.m. They eat it at home, but they don´t often cook it. People in Britain eat a lot of curry. However curry is more Indian than British. Curries vary from very mild to very hot. It can also be vegetarian and it can be more or less spicy. British people like it with rice. People grow carrots, potatoes, onion, peas, cabbage and these vegetables are quite popular.

Sunday Roast consists of roast meat which is made in the oven for about two hours. People eat it with vegetables. Potatoes are often one of these vegetables. Then carrots and Brussels sprouts are very popular. People add Yorkshire puddings to it. These are small balls made from puff pastry. Everything is served on one plate.

Stilton cheese is a blue kind of cheese made in the English Midlands. Cheddar is another kind of cheese which is very popular in Britain. If you buy a sandwich, you will surely have a slice of Cheddar in it. Fish and chips is a British meal known all over the world. If you go to Britain, buy it and enjoy it. People eat it with mushy peas and tartare sauce, they sometimes add baby carrots, too.
